Hi, I’m Jenna Fisch, Talent Development Manager here at Educe.

One common question we hear from clients is “How do I improve learner engagement for my non-compliance courses?” Tough question, right? The answer could be that you need to improve the UI in your LMS, or that you should be promoting your content in a different way. But maybe the issue is that you need to focus on improving the content itself.

Today, I’ll share three key strategies to make your learning content more engaging, dynamic, and relatable.

Strategy #1:

Ask yourself, “Is your content immediately relevant to learners’ roles, problem-centered, and applicable to the real-world situations that they encounter?” Adhering to foundational adult learning principles and ensuring there is a compelling answer to the question “what’s in it for me?” is critical to improving engagement. The content should also draw on your learner’s prior experiences or knowledge and encourage self-directed learning. No one wants to be taught what they already know, and adults like to take charge of what they are learning.

Strategy #2:

Involve trusted subject matter experts in content creation or facilitation.  SMEs bring real world knowledge and practical experiences specific to you and your organization. Learners are also more likely to engage with content when they recognize and trust the instructor, because it establishes immediate credibility.

Strategy #3:

Make learning interactive by providing opportunities for reflection and practice. Adult learners do not want to feel like they are being lectured to – it’s important to break up the content. Utilize scenarios, ask questions, use quizzes, case studies, games, decision-making exercises, or clear calls to action to enhance engagement.

And because I just can’t resist, here’s a bonus tip – Keep your content short and digestible! Since most people have limited time for training, concise content helps maintain attention, maximize learning efficiency, and improve engagement.

Thanks for listening!
