The move to cloud-based LMS software presents a unique challenge for today’s Talent Management leaders.

How can organizations tailor their platform to meet the specific needs of their user base and empower users to complete a task in a way not that is not available through existing workflows?

Enter the microapp – a solution that enables you to extend your cloud software without the exorbitant cost and complexity of maintaining traditional customizations.

Microapps are quite literally small software applications embedded in or adjacent to your talent management system. They can take system data and present it differently, integrate data from multiple systems, enhance a workflow, or transform data outside of the system. Microapps provide a way to leverage all this information and present it in a more powerful user interface.

We’ve developed over 50 microapps. To help you get a sense of some of these microapps, we’ve highlighted a few examples below to inspire you to realize that your cloud software vendor’s native features and functionality are just the starting point; the technology’s true potential is defined by your vision, creativity and will to deploy an efficient, intuitive, integrated and form-fitting platform to meet your transformational talent management goals.

Example 1: Badge Scanning Roster Upload

A large and geographically dispersed healthcare system needed an efficient way to import the attendance and award credit for instructor-led training events that occur across their network of facilities. The data that is captured onsite at events needs to be merged with LMS roster data in order to determine who attended and how much credit should be awarded – a time-consuming, manual process prone to administrative error. The microapp provides an automated interface that allows a file to be uploaded to the LMS, immediately marks attendance in the LMS roster and finally registers and completes walk-ins more efficiently and accurately.

Example 2: Dynamic Homepage

A leading global supplier of automotive seating and electrical components was seeking an intuitive and personalized user experience that would provide targeted messages and direct access to learning in order to drive user compliance and adoption. They designed a highly visual, tile-based system home page with rotating content driven by user attributes and specific job functions, as well as more general learning maps and company news.

Example 3: Compliance Profiler

A large, decentralized research university needed to ensure that individuals received compliance training based on their primary job as well as the potentially numerous appointments related to their roles and responsibilities. Individuals are prompted to complete a simple, online questionnaire about their responsibilities, which in turn populates information on their individual profiles in the system. This annually-refreshed data is used in assignment rules to prescribe required training and drive compliance.
